BloggerElectro.com, Electro.comtheElectro.com Electro.comfirst CMS software came up in 1999 can be said as co founder of internet, but is it really good now in 2020?

Can a blog be successful with Blogger? In this article we are going to do a complete review of blogger.

Blogging has become the most anticipated job nowadays. Any person with a slight motivation can start writing blogs.

They allow you to become vocal about your feelings through your writings and make you express things that otherwise would have been difficult to express.

Starting a new blog is difficult and this can put many people off.

The very first step in starting a blogging career is to find a good blog-publishing tool and one such tool of which many of you might be aware of is Blogger.

First of all, before we do the review, you should know what exactly blogger is and how It works so here’s a quick definition, story and working of blogger.

What is Blogger

What is Blogger

Blogger is a blog-publishing service that allows multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries.

Since Google now owns Blogger, the company offers plenty of Google built-in features, like Adwords, Adsense, and Analytics, making the site extremely useful for novice bloggers.

Originally started in 1999, Blogger was one of the first user-friendly interfaces for bloggers.

Pyra Labs, Blogger’s original creators, started this small company in San Francisco in the middle of the rise of the dot com.

After a few years, the company started generating more users and traffic. By 2002, they were pulling in several hundred thousand users.

In 2003, they were purchased by Google, but the site didn’t change much after that.

On the wide spectrum of website building solutions, Blogger lives on the end that is all-inclusive and provides everything you need to get started and grow your website.

It’s in contrast to solutions where you buy, install, and manage all the “pieces” of your website separately.

It offers a free and easy way to customize service which supports private or multi-user blogs with time-stamped entries.

Starting something new on any platform requires you to consider its pros and cons. So here we have listed some of the pros and cons of Blogger to help you get a kick start to your blogging journey;

What are the advantages and benefits of a blogger

Now you know everything about a blogger, now let’s have a look at some of the benefits of using blogger.

#1. Super Simple Interface

Creating and Managing a blog on blogger is as simple as making a tea.

#2. Free to Use

Blogger is completely free, no extra charges for anything and this makes it different from other CMS.  New bloggers should opt for a free platform that is easy to use and has step-by-step instructions.

#3. Google Hosts Your Blog

If you want to start a blog and make money from it but don’t have enough money for hosting, then bloggers can be the right platform for you. It is because you just need to buy a domain and Google will host your blog which will cost around $3-$12, which the same thing in any other CMS can easily cost $30-$100.

Using Blogger you have the added advantage of Google’s robust secure platform. You don’t need to worry about managing your server’s resources, securing your blog, or creating backups. Which I believe is a win-win deal.

#4. Variety of Themes

A lot of free themes are available on Blogger. You can choose any theme on your blog according to your requirement. Apart from free themes or free templates, you can customize the template without using CSS.

If you want to edit the template then you also have full access to it, and edit the template to change the default HTML, CSS, Javascript code according to your need.

You can even use custom themes and edit them which is preferred by most of the bloggers.

#5. Integration

This according to me is the biggest pro of using Blogger. Because Blogger is Google’s product, so it becomes easily integrated with Google’s second service or product. Such as Google+, Google Places, Google Webmaster, Google Analytics, Picasa Web, Google Docs, Feed Burner, Picasa Creative Kit, Google Drive, Google Merchant, etc.

You can integrate and maintain all of these services with the same email id. Pretty cool right!

What are the Disadvantages of Blogger

What are the Disadvantages of Blogger

After talking about the advantages, let’s dive into some of the major demerits of using blogger.

#1. Ownership

Ownership of your blog is a crucial aspect to consider while choosing a blog site. Having full ownership of your blog gives you the freedom to do anything, including how to handle it, how to monetize it, and when to shut it down.

Blogger is a blogging service provided by the tech giant Google. It is free, reliable most of the time, and has enough features to publish your content on the web. However, it is not owned by you. Google runs this service and has the right to shut it down or shut down your access to it at any time.

#2. Fewer Features

While Blogger offers many basic features and a user-friendly interface for novice users, they do not offer a lot of options for more advanced bloggers. Many bloggers complain (both novice and advanced) about losing their template customizations.

While the simple interface is attractive to novice bloggers, many professional and advanced bloggers complain about the lack of high-end features and more advanced options. Which is a major turnoff of Blogger?

Fewer templates, basic customization options, and lack of layout choices make Blogger seriously fall behind in terms of design choices.

#3. Lack of Plugins

Blogger lacks a lot in plugins, there are no plugins that someone can use to customize his website easier and to make his tasks easier. While in almost every other CMS software, there is a plugins option.

Plugins can perform many tasks, they can extend functionality or add new features to your blog or can even automate SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your blog.

#4. Support

Support is another critical factor to consider while choosing your blog platform. There is limited support available for Blogger. They have very basic documentation and a user’s forum. In terms of support, your choices are very limited. And since it is a free service, Google can’t provide adequate support to individual blog owners.

Is Blogger good for SEO?

As you conclude with Blogger you might have noticed that it has basic features, now, the question comes can a blog made on Blogger rank on Google?, so, one simple answer to this is ‘Yes’.

The SEO of any blog depends on how you do it, it also depends on the platform but not a lot, you can cover up it if you use the right SEO strategies. I would like to tell you that for an experiment of this only, I decided to start one blog on blogger.

Now, it has been 6 months when I first created that blog, and now, 90% of my traffic is organic. Below is my Google Analytics data of my blog.

Google Analytics Result with blogger.com

This proves that a blog can rank on Google but you’ll need to add more efforts in it than any other CMS like WordPress because plugins can help in 40% of the SEO so without plugins, you can say that you’ll need to put 40% more efforts in it.

Who Should Use Blogger

According to this blogger review, we come down to the conclusion that though Blogger is a rather simples and conventional site, it is still a reliable and popular blogging platform.

Undoubtedly, with the coming of different sites like WordPress, Tumblr, Posterous, LiveJournal, etc.

Blogger is best for new bloggers and those who don’t have a big budget to invest in hosting.

Blogger can also prove to be the best for those who just want to share their thoughts with the world and don’t focus on earning from it.

If you have a little more budget, then, I prefer using WordPress instead of blogger because it has a lot more features than the blog.

The popularity of Blogger has gone down but still it one of the best blog publishing platforms.

Many of the popular bloggers still use it to write their blogs. So if you want to become a blogger and you’re new then go with Blogger for practicing things manually, you’ll learn many things on it which you can’t learn on other sites, because there are plugins used preferably which do all stuff for you.

Once you learn all things you can plan on switching to more professionally focused sites.
